Evraz Group S.A. is one of the largest vertically-integrated steel, mining and vanadium businesses in the world. In 2007, Evraz produced 16.4 million tonnes of crude steel, 12.6 million tonnes of pig iron and 15.2 million tonnes of rolled products.
Evraz Group’s principal assets include three of Russia’s leading steel plants: Nizhny Tagil (NTMK) in the Urals region and West Siberian (Zapsib) and Novokuznetsk (NKMK) in Siberia. The Company also owns Palini e Bertoli in Italy, Evraz Vitkovice Steel in the Czech Republic, and Evraz Oregon Steel Mills and Claymont Steel in the United States. The acquisition of Ipsco’s Canadian plate and pipe business further enhances the Company’s operations in North America. Evraz's presence in South Africa is constituted by Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corporation. In 2008, Evraz made its first investment in the Asia Pacific region entering in a share purchase agreement to acquire up to 51% of Chinese steel manufacturer Delong Holdings.
The Company’s mining division in Russia includes the iron ore mining complexes Evrazruda, Kachkanarsky (KGOK) and Vysokogorsky (VGOK) and the coal mining complexes Yuzhkuzbassugol and Raspadskaya, in which Evraz holds a 40% equity interest. These mining assets enable Evraz Group to be successful as a vertically-integrated steel producer. In 2007, Evraz produced approximately 18.9 million tonnes of iron ore products, and mined 21.1 million tonnes of coking coal - including full-year figures of Yuzhkuzbassugol and Raspadskaya.
In December 2007, Evraz signed an agreement to acquire majority stakes in select production assets in Ukraine, including the Sukhaya Balka iron ore mining and processing complex, the Dnepropetrovsk Iron and Steel Works and three coking plants – Bagleykoks, Dneprkoks, and Dneprodzerzhinsk Coke Chemical Plant.
Evraz is also an important player in the world vanadium market. Its vanadium business comprises Strategic Minerals Corporation in the United States and Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corporation in South Africa.
Evraz also owns and operates the Nakhodka commercial sea port in the Far East of Russia.
